Permits and Community Relations
Obtaining approvals and permits from building departments, regulatory agencies, and varying community
interest groups has become a significant and challenging part of project planning.
The Klinkam Company has worked with building departments in over thirty cities in eleven states to
obtain building permits.
 |
We're familiar with the process and adept at collaboratively working through
issues with plans examiners and architects to get permits issued.
|
Often permitting is preceeded by a period of public comment on the compatibility of the project to
adjacent communities and land use code interpretation. We work closely with the owner, design team,
and contractor to proactively meet with community groups to inform them and answer their questions
about a project. We have a 100% success rate in obtaining project approvals and winning
community endorsement.
- Set up project prescreening with local building officials to introduce the project. This frequently
identifies concerns about issues that the building officials may have with zoning, land use, or
building code interpretation.
- Negotiate whenever possible with the building officials for a commitment to their plan review timeline.
- Request in-house or outside plan review from the buildng department as best serves the project requirements.
- Request or negotiate favorable special inspection requirements.
- Take a firm position with building officials if their evaluation of a code issue is open to
interpretation and detrimental to project objectives.
- Participate in community meetings with local interest groups to discuss the project, listen to
community concerns, and answer questions.
